We headed down to the Gaslamp Quarter and set our sights on Searsucker; a restaurant opened by Bravo’s Top Chef Contestant, Brian Malarkey. Searsucker’s menu boasts New American Classic cuisine, with an emphasis on approachable and unpretentious dishes. The restaurant also has an extensive beverage list featuring local craft beer, handcrafted cocktails and a selection of one-of-a-kind wines from all over the world. Upon first glance at the menu we are a little thrown off and we gladly accept some help from our server who guided us in the right direction.
For starters we ordered Duck Fat Fries with Tomato Jam and Shrimp “Spicy” in a bath of Bacon Grits, both were amazing. We also ordered a round of handcrafted cocktails which included the “Pear Tree” consisting of Zaya aged Rum, Fernet Branca, Pear and Lemon, and an “Indian Summer” made with fresh pressed Apple Juice, Grey Goose La Poire and a Leopold Apple. Delish! Entrees included the Hanger “Butcher’s Steak” with Cress, Smoked Tomato and topped with Mine Shaft Bleu Cheese for me and the other half went with the Loin “filet” with Lobster Butter and Cognac.
At the end of it all we couldn’t pass on a dessert named after the King himself! The “King” Sundae was a sweet concoction of Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, Bacon Honey Caramel, Bananas and Whipped Cream. One Word: Yum!
