Zinc @ Shade Hotel, Manhattan Beach

In Dining, LA Dining, LA Guide by LA Travel Magazine

Nestled inside the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach, Zinc lobby bar and lounge offers a relaxed atmosphere in a sleek setting. The casual New American restaurant boasts open space in a rectangular silhouette with clean lines and dark wood perfect for intimate conversations or an entertaining get-together. Find a seat at the bar, low lounge tables or outdoor patio to begin your experience for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A pitcher of shade sangria infused with sauvignon blanc, strawberries, raspberries, oranges and grapes will get you in the mindset to fully relax before selecting from a variety of small plates to share.

An eclectic list of tapas ensures that every guest will find something appealing to their culinary preference. The succulent beef burger trio combines three all premium beef mini burgers with cheeses, garlic aioli, grilled onions and apple wood smoked bacon for a south of the border taste made for the South Bay. A noticeably popular choice was the Caprese salad, uniquely presented in four vine ripened roma tomatoes removed from the core. Zinc chefs add basil pesto, Di Stefano fresh mozzarella and aged balsamic pearls to create an aesthetically pleasing appetizer that was a light start.  The high quality ingredients continue into the Tuscan grilled chicken sandwich, which features artisan ciabatta with a refreshing pesto spread served with frites (as Zinc says) on the side.

When the sun begins to set, indulge in one of the many cocktail options with whimsical names like, “Shady Lady,” crafted with citrus vodka, pomegranate, honey and fresh lemon juice or “Are You Man Enough,” with jalapeno tequila, agave and fresh lime.  If you’re coming here for just the liquor, Zinc at Shade is known for their Subzero Martini. The high-concept cocktail offers ICYDRINK technology to create a very innovative cocktail. Served out of a glass cone of ice, Subzero Martini’s are offered in three flavors: Passionate Kiss, Boozy Arnold and Honey Money- a sweet martini with muddled strawberries. Each sip is an experience in itself and can only be found at Zinc.

With extended hours menus throughout the day, Zinc at Shade attracts the laid-back locals and curious tourist’s to attempt something new. Zinc utilizes the freshest quality ingredients as well as local meats, cheeses, breads and produce for superior dishes. With Executive Chef Chris Garasic, an inventive 20-year expert in the kitchen, Zinc at Shade is a culinary experience.
