West Hollywood is no stranger to bold energy, stylish crowds, and nightlife with a narrative but La Bohème manages to bring something refreshingly unique to the scene: a sultry, Parisian-inspired hideaway where cabaret flair meets modern California cuisine.
From the moment you step through the iron gates and past its ivy-covered façade, La Bohème transports you. Inside, the space is moody, decadent, and dramatic, think velvet drapes, flickering candlelight, chandeliers dripping in crystal, and plush banquettes that feel like they were plucked straight from a Moulin Rouge fantasy. It’s theatrical, sexy, and unapologetically opulent, perfect for a romantic date night or a stylish group dinner where you’re dressed to be seen.
But just beyond those heavy curtains lies a completely different energy. The outdoor patio is lively and quintessentially West Hollywood, strung with fairy lights and filled with the hum of laughter, clinking cocktails, and stylish patrons enjoying LA’s famously warm nights. Here, the scene is more playful and vibrant, ideal for people-watching, catching up with friends, and soaking in the neighborhood’s glamorous pulse.
The menu walks the line between indulgence and refinement. It’s designed for sharing, savoring, and pairing with craft cocktails or a well-chosen bottle of French wine.
We began with a trio of their signature Croistinis, each delivering a bold bite with its own personality. The Flash Seared Filet Mignon crostini was layered with Dijon aioli, crispy garlic, and a kiss of chive—rich, tender, and deeply satisfying. The Marinated Mushroom version, with PX sherry vinegar, shallots, herbs, and a whisper of truffle, brought earthy elegance in a vegan-friendly form. And the Tomato Basil was simple yet vibrant with heirloom tomato, garlic, and red wine vinegar.
From there, we dove into the Charcuterie & Cheese Board, a curated spread of the chef’s daily picks that paired beautifully with the ambiance and our first round of drinks. We couldn’t resist adding a few of the raw bar standouts, the Oysters on the Half Shell, with shio ponzu, serrano chili, grapefruit, and cilantro, were a briny delight, while the Hamachi Sashimi stunned with layers of flavor from yuzu aji amarillo ponzu, lemon oil, and a bright medley of cucumber, tomato, and petit cilantro.
The Grilled Octopus was another highlight: expertly charred and plated with lemon raita, Castelvetrano olives, tomato, celery, and a dill-herb oil that added dimension. It was light, elegant, and just adventurous enough to match the mood. For something craveable and casual, the Buffalo Cauliflower from the happy hour menu delivered on all counts crispy, spicy, and surprisingly addictive, paired with Vegan Aioli.
La Bohème takes its bar program seriously, infusing it with the same flair as its design. We kicked things off with two signature cocktails that bookended the meal perfectly. The Espresso Martini comprised of Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Black Hjerte coffee liqueur, and Peerless Organic Cold Brew, was velvety, smooth, and an ideal opener (or closer) for the evening.
The Lychee Martini was a refreshing contrast made with Skyy Vodka, lychee juice, housemade sour mix, and whole lychee nuts that burst with juicy sweetness. It’s a drink that feels like summer in a glass, with just the right balance of tart and tropical.
