The Grand Golf Club, Del Mar

When it comes to golf it is no surprise that The Grand Del Mar was named “Top San Diego Golf Resort” by Southland Golf.  The Grand Golf Course, formerly named The Meadows is one of my all-time favorite golf experiences; hands down. The reason I use the term “experience” is that it is just that; with 380 lush acres of beauty, it is easy to get swept away by this amazing Tom Fazio designed gem. While boasting great playability it still has its many challenges with dramatic elevations, rolling hills and scenic valleys. It is easy to find yourself gazing over the stunning topography of Del Mar and if you’re lucky you may be able to have a brief encounter with the local wildlife that call this course home. My favorite part about being on the course is its natural, rustic beauty. Some of the more picturesque holes include the 4th which with a beautiful fairway bunker and perched green gives the look of an infinity pool dropping off a cliff. How about the par 3 risk reward 17th hole which is home to a very intimidating body of water; go big or go home! With a variety of tee locations spanning from 4824 to 7160 yards in length, there is something for everyone on this course with a combination of scenery, wildlife refuge and challenging holes.

Don’t forget to make a stop at the stunning Frank Lloyd-Wright inspired clubhouse which features a bar and restaurant; offering both indoor and outdoor seating.  I can’t think of a better way to unwind after 18 holes.  We enjoyed lunch at Club M with an accommodating martini after our round of golf which hit the spot perfectly! Lunch was an elaborate combination of Duck Confit Flatbread and Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Madeira Cream Sauce. Our signature Club M martini was also a winner as we went with the “Yellow Cake” made with Absolut Vanilla, Amaretto and Pineapple Juice.

There is one important thing to mention when looking to divulge in a golf” experience” like this; you must be staying at the world-famous Grand Del Mar resort. One of my all-time favorite resorts; I highly recommend not only staying at the resort but absolutely giving the Grand Del Mar golf course a whirl, I can say without a doubt in my mind, you won’t be disappointed!
