The Resort at Pelican Hill, Newport Coast

I have to start this one out with a big “wow” as this is one of the best courses out there. Some say best course in the county; some say best in California and some say best in the world. As a matter of fact The Resort at Pelican Hill was rated 2012 “Best Golf Resort in the World” by Conde Nast. It is such a special course that I actually spent my birthday there this past year! Golf at Pelican Hills is comprised of two courses, 36 championship holes on Ocean North and Ocean South. Another Tom Fazio masterpiece; Pelican Hill has their 36 holes spread out over 400 acres of stunning, coastal land which will take your breath away. It’s no wonder Tom Fazio has more courses ranked in the top 100 than any other golf course architect and Pelican Hill displays some of his best work!

Adjacent to thousands of acres of permanently preserved land that make up the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve; this course is a natural beauty. I recall many moments being at the highest part of the course gazing out into the ocean watching the literal “painting” in the background, what a sight. With the combination of sailboats passing by in the ocean against the beautiful blue sky and the perfectly manicured course you want to pinch yourself while taking this all in. Pelican also boasts a very impressive quality of amenities; professional forecaddies, luxurious locker rooms, practice facility, shoe attendants, club cleaning service, golf shop and golf academy. The service here is unmatched!

The price here is a little high at $290 per round but you get what you pay for. Once again you’re paying for golf at its finest, for a luxurious overall experience. After shooting a round that literally ingrained lifetime memories and made for some great photos we made our way to Pelican Grill for a bite to eat. Pelican Grill celebrates the best of coastal California dining with Napa inspired cuisine. The grill offers fresh seafood, pastas, steaks, and refreshing cocktails. With an open concept display kitchen, heated ocean view terrace and extensive wine by the glass menu this couldn’t be a better place to finish off the day. Enjoy your evening while watching your favorite sporting event on one of the 9 foot flat screen TVs’ and sipping your favorite cognac. Overall I give this course 5 stars, treat yourself to this one, you will love it!
