Low Tide, High Vibes: RASA’s PIER PLAY Returns to Santa Monica Pier

By Ken Alcazar

There are few places in Los Angeles where the past and future collide quite as elegantly as the Santa Monica Pier. A monument to nostalgia, beach-town innocence, and carnival kitsch, it’s not exactly the first place you’d expect to find a sleek, future-forward cultural takeover. But that’s exactly what RASA World delivered again with the triumphant return of PIER PLAY this past May.

Billed as “Santa Monica’s ultimate sunset-into-night experience,” PIER PLAY isn’t your average beach party or overhyped DJ drop. It’s something stranger, softer, and far more ambitious: a ritual of community reawakening disguised as an electronic dreamscape. As the sky bled orange into indigo, the pier pulsed with a rare kind of magic, half ecstatic dance, half spiritual séance.

This second edition drew thousands of guests from across Los Angeles and beyond, proving that what started as a bold experiment has quickly become one of the city’s most magnetic cultural touchstones. By twilight, the pier was packed with revelers moving in sync to the music, immersed in the visual installations and the collective energy of something truly alive.

If last year’s debut set the tone, 2025 proved that RASA isn’t just experimenting; they’re executing a vision. The lineup? Curated and immaculate. Global electronic tastemakers like Nanor, Stavroz, Gheist, Yamagucci, and Chambord delivered performances that transcended genre and geography. Deep melodic grooves folded into hypnotic ambient textures, their rhythms swirling between roller coasters, light installations, and the crashing tide beneath. It wasn’t just music, it was transformation. A familiar landmark became a temporary utopia, where strangers moved like water and shared electricity in more ways than one.

“We’re not just programming events—we’re reprogramming how people see space,” said Ahmad Muhaisen, CEO and co-founder of RASA. “This pier has always had a heartbeat. We’re just amplifying it.”

RASA’s collaboration with electric vehicle brand Rivian underscored the event’s progressive spirit, blending clean energy ideals with cultural innovation in a way that felt both natural and forward-thinking. It was one more layer in a multi-sensory experience that never once lost its pulse.

Behind the visuals and the voltage, PIER PLAY is anchored by intention. RASA’s founding trio Ahmad Muhaisen, Faisal Malas, and Tristan Petit come from a mix of fintech, hospitality, and creative technology, and that unlikely fusion is what allows them to pull off events like this with both ambition and emotional intelligence. Their model doesn’t just scale—it resonates. The artists and vendors tapped for the night came from throughout Southern California and beyond, reflecting a belief that cultural innovation thrives when it’s locally rooted and globally inspired.

“The beauty of PIER PLAY is that it feels both expansive and intimate,” said Malas. “We’re not here to just throw a party—we’re building memory. We’re shaping how people connect to place, and to each other.”

PIER PLAY is no longer a one-off concept. It’s a traveling philosophy. RASA is already laying the groundwork to expand the series beyond Santa Monica, adapting the formula to new coastlines and new cities, transforming piers those beautiful, in-between spaces into new arenas for creative communion. To Muhaisen, it’s about more than real estate. “We see piers not just as structures,” he said. “They’re bridges. Between land and sea. Past and future. Tradition and transformation.”

As the final beats reverberated into the surf and the lights dimmed one by one, the crowd lingered no rush, no chaos, just a shared, quiet awe. PIER PLAY didn’t end. It faded like a good memory, warm and just out of reach. RASA didn’t just host a night they made a case for how we gather, why we celebrate, and what happens when art, place, and people are given room to breathe and dance.

With tickets selling out for the last edition, fans are already looking ahead to the next chapter. PIER PLAY returns to the Santa Monica Pier on October 4, 2025 and those hoping to catch the next wave would be wise to pre-register now. The tide doesn’t wait.
