The Renaissance Esmeralda captures that balance beautifully.

The property itself feels grand in scale while remaining thoughtfully designed, so it never becomes overwhelming. The soaring multi-story atrium lobby immediately establishes a striking sense of arrival, with dramatic globe pendant lighting suspended overhead and a sweeping curved staircase wrapped in shimmering turquoise tile commanding the center of the space. Before even reaching check-in, the hotel creates the impression of a fully immersive destination rather than simply a place to stay.

Beyond the lobby, the resort opens into a sprawling desert sanctuary filled with expansive pools framed by towering palms, manicured golf greens, walking paths, private cabanas, and multiple dining experiences spread throughout the grounds. The atmosphere feels immersive and transportive, more reminiscent of a private luxury retreat than a traditional hotel resort.

One of the most indulgent ways to experience the property is by reserving a private poolside cabana for the day. Positioned alongside the resort’s sparkling pools and surrounded by swaying palms, the cabanas create an elevated escape from the already luxurious atmosphere around them. Each cabana includes plush shaded seating, chilled bottled waters, and a beautifully presented fruit platter that feels especially refreshing beneath the desert sun. The combination of attentive poolside service, music drifting through the property, and uninterrupted sunshine creates the kind of leisurely afternoon that defines a true resort getaway.

The wellness experience at the Renaissance Esmeralda deserves equal attention. The spa immediately introduces a slower, more tranquil energy that contrasts beautifully with the vibrant social atmosphere of the resort itself. During the stay, the 50-minute Gemstone Glow Facial proved to be one of the standout experiences of the weekend. Designed to deeply hydrate and restore radiance to sun-exposed skin, the treatment felt simultaneously restorative and indulgent. Every detail of the experience was calming and elevated, leaving skin luminous, refreshed, and remarkably revitalized afterward. It perfectly complemented the overall atmosphere of the resort, luxurious without feeling excessive, sophisticated without ever becoming clinical.

The evening began at the newly opened Topgolf Swing Suites, which quickly became one of the most unexpectedly entertaining elements of the stay. Rather than recreating a traditional driving range, the hotel designed a sleek indoor lounge environment where guests can play immersive golf simulations while cocktails arrive directly at the table. Even for non-golfers, the experience becomes competitive almost immediately.

The blood orange espresso martini established the tone for the evening beautifully. Smooth, citrus forward, slightly smoky, and perfectly balanced, it felt crafted specifically for a warm desert night. Between the cocktails, golf simulations, and sophisticated lounge atmosphere, the entire experience felt elevated, social, and genuinely entertaining rather than gimmicky.

Dinner at Seven Olive delivered exactly the kind of polished culinary experience travelers hope to discover at a luxury resort. The service immediately stood out as attentive, warm, and impressively knowledgeable about the menu despite the restaurant being newly opened

The menu leans toward a contemporary steakhouse concept infused with Mediterranean influences, and several dishes left a lasting impression. The goat cheese tarts arrived delicate yet richly layered with flaky pastry and creamy goat cheese balanced by bright acidity that kept the dish feeling unexpectedly light. The New York steak was equally memorable, deeply flavorful with a beautifully executed char and cooked with remarkable precision. It was substantial without feeling overly heavy, the kind of entrée that reminds you how exceptional classic steakhouse dining can feel when elevated by thoughtful execution.

The following morning began at CAVA, the resort’s airy breakfast restaurant overlooking the property. Morning light poured through the dining room as guests lingered over coffee before heading toward the pools, spa, or golf greens for the day ahead. The atmosphere felt elegant yet relaxed, embodying the effortless rhythm that defines a luxury desert weekend. Breakfast itself felt fresh, vibrant, and beautifully suited to the setting.

Back upstairs, the suites continue the hotel’s contemporary desert aesthetic in a way that feels refined rather than overly thematic. The design blends clean architectural lines with warm natural textures and subtle mid-century influences. Pale wood flooring, oversized white bedding, geometric partition screens, and a calming neutral palette accented with soft turquoise tones mirror the sophisticated color story carried throughout the resort.

Natural light floods the suites through plantation shutters overlooking the property, while separate living spaces create an atmosphere that feels far more residential than corporate. Textured accent pillows, woven stools, layered lighting, and modern wall detailing contribute to an environment that feels simultaneously sophisticated and inviting. The suites feel expansive, calming, and intentionally connected to the surrounding desert landscape without relying on predictable design clichés.

What makes staying here especially compelling is the location itself. Palm Springs may receive the international attention, but Indian Wells offers something many travelers ultimately discover they prefer once they experience it: space. Less traffic. Less congestion.
